Read information about the authorRiley Carney is nineteen years old. She wrote the five-book Reign of the Elements series, a fantasy adventure story for ages 9-14, when she was fifteen and sixteen. She has also written an urban fantasy trilogy for older teens and is currently at work on a new trilogy.
Riley chose to write fantasy stories because she loves reading them and because she believes that fantasy engages imaginations and inspires young people to read at an age when many kids stop reading.
Driven by her passion for literacy, Riley created a non-profit which advocates literacy for children. She believes that the way to help children break the cycle of poverty and exploitation is through literacy. she has created a children’s literacy center in a women’s shelter in Colorado, and bought one thousand new children’s books for children in low-income neighborhoods in Colorado and Washington DC, and built schools and water purification systems for two villages in Africa.
Some of the proceeds from her book sales go toward her literacy programs.
Riley has won a number of national and local awards for her writing and for her work with her literacy non-profit. Riley frequently speaks at schools and libraries to bring her powerful and inspirational message to children and teens.
